Under the Sea...

Last week in Wednesday's iPad art class
we made small hinged books around a layered theme.
My example showed Zoe scuba diving
and searching for friends under the sea.
 I made four layers,
printed them out, then cut and attached to a hinged edge.
This is a great way to get the students to understand the layers in Brushes
or any drawing program such as Photoshop too.
Some made their own under the sea cards.
Here is the back layer to the finished one above.
And here is a cute underground raccoon cave
with hanging plants and a photo bombing raccoon.
Love the back layer of this one.
And here is an example of all four layers on top of each other.
They are printed and will be made into a cute card in tomorrow's class.
How cute is this sports themed card?
Next we will tackle a huge pop up card with 5 plus layers.
Stay tuned for more fun.

Have a happy hump day!

Thought you might need some flowers to get you
through the rest of the week.
Hang in there...
anything worth doing well is often difficult and frustrating,
but a bouquet of bounty is yours for the persevering!

Just Jump In!

Sometimes you just need to jump in
and lay down anything.
 Color, texture, line and shape...
just to give your brain something to grasp on to
and begin the creative process.
And a new stencil helps the process along.
I am loving this stencil and the affect it gives.
Oh and btw-
Just found out this one sold!
So I am doing the happy dance!

a little instagram love!

Some instagram pictures from the past month:
This is happening outside my window right now!
How is one to get any work done?
I am so happy the sun has greeted us
 often this winter and spring
 which has been wonderful.
 So there still is hibernating
but spring has shown its lovely face
and blessed us with small bits of wonder
and large bits of glory too!
 And even Anthropologie
caught the beauty in their window displays.
But this has to be my favorite glimpse of the season
taken by my son in Lancaster PA.
Just read the sign...
Oh happy spring cat flattening catnip
without a care in the world!

MATS Bootcamp Poster

Here is my submission to Lilla Roger's class
Make Art that Sells Bootcamp.
I am adoring this class!
This month's assignment was to design a poster
for an upcoming art event in Brighton England.
First we played around with lettering.
I haven't really done any since the 70's.
So this era found its way into my iPad design.
Then I tried some freehand drawing and actually liked the different styles.
I kept envisioning a girl heading to the gathering with all her art supplies
(yep that would be me--always over prepared)
and of course my corgi had to come with me.
Then I cut her out and scanned her onto a grid background.
It went onto the iPad and the fun continued!
I added the British flag,
a small photo of the Wheel,
the Brighton Dome where the event will be held,
a photo of my yardstick,
my paint palette,
and a stamp with a young Queen Elizabeth.
I then changed the font for the final picture at top.
Phew I think I am done.
Now on to some messy prep for some wood wrapped pieces
that will be loose and fun--
always need to do loose stuff after tight work at the pixel level.

The Bremen Town Musicians iPad Style

My students enjoyed hearing the story of
The Bremen Town Musicians,
and then we created our own stacked animals
on the iPad.
They turned out pretty cute,
full of personality,
using different brushes for different effects,
cute critters singing under the full moon,
peaking through the curtains,
and even a nice ending.
So happy that these five wanted to take their time and do a fantastic job!
