a painting a day #19

Or maybe I should call these posts a painting every week...

Here's the newest one -
don't seem to be able to stay away from those crows.
My paintings are lined up on the living room floor
just waiting for this event.
Only 2 1/2 weeks to go,
but who's counting?

a painting a day #18

She is called
I spy with my little eye
because I couldn't resist adding a small snail
crawling up a stem in the lower left-
just gives me a chuckle.
Isn't that how life is?
Just when you think you have it all together,
there is always something!
She has been rehauled, face lifted, given new flowers,
and the background glazed over and over
until I finally think she is ready to greet the world....
3 weeks until the art show
and 3 more partial paintings to complete-
better get into the studio today.

ipad after school art begins

ipad art began last week and we started drawing summer paintings.
 These first two are mine
Never have I seen such an engaged group of students.
They took to it like fish to water (sorry couldn't resist).
 And they explored,
and doodled,
and learned 'pinch and zoom',
and we made lots of fish...
then I imported photos I took at
Good Harbor Beach in Massachusetts just a few short weeks ago,
and asked them to let their imaginations go wild.
Just loving this doggy...
 and this serene beach scene
which would not have been possible without the
'pinch and zoom' technique.
Enjoy - I will post all the ipad art right here on this blog.

a closeup of a girl surrounded by flowers-
seems like a little bit of heaven to me.

a painting a day #16

The art fair is a month away
so my studio has been calling
whenever I can get there.
I started teaching mixed media and ipad art to the kiddos
this week so it has been busy.
Of course they grasped the whole ipad drawing with a finger concept
like it was second nature to them,
and of course it is.
And the grief thing just sits on my shoulder waiting to attack...
seriously thanks for the kind words on the last post.
Family arrives tomorrow and then a service Sunday and Monday
so it will be a beautiful but hard weekend.

a Sunday blessing

a photo of a summer day 4 weeks ago
when my oldest flew home because we knew Hank didn't have too many days left on this earth.
My dear sweet father-in-law passed away this week.
I really don't have any words to say,
just not even at that point yet.
My chest hurts and I feel numb and my brain isn't really working.
I also feel a tad panicked that I am going back into that dark spot
that I found myself in after my mom died last year.
I wasn't going to share, as my blog seems to be in transition
and I was seriously planning on making it only about art,
but then this photo stared at me this morning and I decided to be brave.
My son says it all right here
and I am so thankful for his words when mine fail.
Hug and love your parents this week...

can you imagine?

can you imagine sailing to the other side of the world?
and having no idea what is there or if you will return to tell of your tales?
sometimes art is like that-
you start one direction and it goes another,
you fall into storms and fear for the outcome,
you try a different course and pray for the best.
well it is not quite so dramatic but you artists understand.
here i am ont he Mayflower II last week pondering the universe I do believe.
