let your light shine!

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
Psalm 119:104-6
I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas spent with loved ones,
and maybe a little snow...
This ipad sketch is on our cards this year.
Zoe and Matteo loved posing and enlisted
a couple of newly found friends who frequent our yard.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

 Light piercing the darkness,
illuminating manuscripts,
the scent of Christmas bubbling on the stove,
chicken pot pie lovingly baked,
sweet smiles,
a riot of color,
and gifts creatively wrapped...
it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

He's got the whole world in his hands...

Having fun with my iPadders
making nativity scenes.
Sometimes my mind just goes to some odd places,
but it sure does inspire them and make them smile. :)
Love these scenes by 2nd and 3rd graders!
See the dog door?
Ahh from the hands of babes!

My drawing is above and my new students followed along
 and drew the sketches below.
Isn't that great for only their second week using the iPad?

sunflowers and glue

In October we made sunflowers -
the old standby that always looks wonderful-
 just lines of glue...
 allowed to dry...
then brilliantly colored with chalk pastel.

foiled again

First trimester finishes this week and I have yet to post
any of the mixed media we have made...
sigh.
Such is life,
but I really can't complain as I have been making and selling much of my own art.
Yippee...
So I am going to try and catch up this week with a trek through mixed media
with my kiddos.
The first project was drawing on foil.
Let me introduce you to this cute tiger above made by a charming Kindergartener.
First we rolled black printing ink onto aluminum foil.
Then the foil was placed ink side down over white construction paper.
Then a tiger design was drawn with a pencil
and  the back of a small hand rubbed all over the paper for texture.
This hamster was made with the same process and love.
We added oil pastel and watercolor actually -
just went for it with lots of layers for fun.
Aren't they cute?
Kindergarteners are awesome!

Bingo and White Hare by Larry Calkins

Look what came home to live with me today -
two Larry Calkins encaustics...
Happy Birthday to me!
His work takes me to another whimsical dream-like world.
I got White Hare last week for my birthday,
and then I heard there were more pieces coming to the gallery today,
so I scampered down there (like a bunny) at opening time today to see them.
Bingo just had to come home too.
Really he called out to me.
Well actually I guess that would have been kind of difficult with his mouth full,
and as his mother obviously taught him good manners such as not meowing with your mouth full,
and to always bring house-warming gifts this time of year,
well maybe he spoke to me telepathically.
He reminds me of all the loving cat gifts I have received over the years.
My favorite was the still-alive shrew that Thomas brought home and released for us to play with;
I was a young mother with two small boys and needless to say,
I did not thank Thomas for his kind gift,
but instead probably cried and cordoned off an area
for the shrew to reside until my husband came home...
ahh memories!

gobble gobble

Just to get you into the turkey spirit -
my wonderful ipadders created a
gang,
rafter or
gobble
of turkeys
to make you smile.
Really I looked up a flock of turkeys and those are the correct terms -
so see art makes you smart too.
