inkblot butterfly love

nothing says summer like a butterfly!
the art clubbers finished the year out
by creating some beautiful bugs.
first we just sloshed (art term #1) paint on the background,
drew crayon marks,
and sketched a simple butterfly...
so very hard for them to loosen up and just make a mess.
then I instructed them to paint one side only with lots of gooey paint.
then we folded and smooshed (art term #2)
and opened it up to see what we would find.
some were not happy...
but we turned that frown upside down
by adding lots of oil pastel outlines
and splotches (art term #3) of color
and our masterpieces emerged from their cocoons!
this really is the final art club post.

  1. Your students are such wonderful artists!

I was able to get my hands on a copy of, "Create with Me" (at Borders). Lots of great art & ideas, and words of wisdom...:)

Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you, dear friend!

  2. Beautiful colors, so vibrant.
I love the addition of pastels.

  3. What a wonderful butterfly!
The colors are perfect for summer time :]
    Thank you for sharing.

  4. I love your playlist. Thanks for such an inspiring compilation.

  5. Nothing better than "kids art".
And thanks for the great idea -- smooshing paint to make an ink-blot--how creative.
You know, I used to manufacture a water-base silkscreen ink (Versatex) and I literally got to "swim" in paint all day. We had electric mixers but I still had to use an oar to do a thorough job. I had to stick my arm into the vat, to scrape the sides and to finally pull the plug in the bottom of the kettle. Oh what fun. Thanks for the memories.

  6. Such happy artwork. I want to try that myself!
